Forbes richest Americans list leader changes for the first time in 20 years

For the first time since 1994, Forbes 400 has changed its leader in the ranking of the richest Americans: Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, who doubled his fortune in a year, took the first place.

Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos topped Forbes 400, the richest Americans. Bezos pressed Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, who kept the first line of the ranking with 1994 of the year. At the same time, Bezos turned out to be the richest man in the world in 2018, writes RBC.

The entrepreneur set another record: for the first time in the history of the rating, the status of one of its participants exceeded $ 100 billion. According to Forbes, the capital of Bezos doubled over the year and reached $ 160 billion.

Amazon, engaged in electronic commerce, also demonstrates successful results: the company became the second in the world after Apple with a capitalization of more than $ 1 trillion. For the first six months of 2018, Amazon reported revenue of $ 100 billion (an increase of 41% over the previous year).

One of the reasons for the success of the billionaire Forbes calls that Bezos always follows his philosophy: manage your company, as if this is the first day in business. As the magazine notes, along with the annual letter to Amazon shareholders, Bezos always send a copy of the very first such letter from 1997 of the year. At that time, the company had 1,5 million customers, and now 560 is one thousand employees who serve 100 million Amazon Prime members. “We are pleased with what we managed to do, and even more pleased with what we have to do,” Bezos wrote in his first letter to shareholders.

Earlier, Bloomberg also called Bezos the leader of his billionaire rating: the agency estimated the state of a businessman at $ 150 billion, which allowed Bezos to be considered the richest person in history.

The general condition of the Forbes 400 participants rose to a record $ 2,9 trillion (an increase of 7% from the previous year). Half of this wealth is owned by the richest Americans 45.

The best result from the point of view of the increase in the status showed SEO CEO Jack Dorsey ($ 6,3 billion, an increase of 186% per year). The worst result was George Soros, whose fortune fell to $ 8,3 billion from $ 23 billion.
